MCSO asks for Public's Help to Investigate Animal Abuse Reports - 07/08/12
The Marion County Sheriff's Office has received a number of disturbing calls and emails from concerned residents reporting that domestic animals are being used for target practice in areas of Marion County.

The reports indicate that people who are responding to Craigslist ads offering free domestic animals to good homes, and then using the animals (specifically cats) for target practice.

We are currently trying to determine if these reports are factual. Some reports are quoting Facebook postings and we have heard that there may be photos supporting the behavior.

Our Office aggressively investigates all reports of animal neglect or cruelty and we take these reports quite seriously.

We provide three avenues for reporting what you know about these crimes:

You can call the Marion County Sheriff's Office Tip line at 503.540.8079, and remain anonymous.

You can directly email whatever information you have to Deputy Mark Ferron at Mferron@co.marion.or.us .

You can send any photos depicting this behavior or showing the animals reportedly shot, to Deputy Ferron or the Public Information Officer, Don Thomson at dthomson@co.marion.or.us. Thomson may also be contacted at 503.932.8002.

If these reports are factual, we need your help to stop these attacks and arrest the offenders.

This is just a failed attempt on the part of the local PETA freaks to get craigslist to shut down the pet section. Doubt this actually happened.

Animal abuse is disgusting but so is making up crap to play into your warped PETA agendas.

    Now the police are involved

I hope the police either catch the pet abusers or catch the PETA freaks who may have made this up.

  2. Right. So you witness a horrible violent crime involving helpless pets and firearms. The first person you call is a vet? WRONG..... You only do this when your story is a lie and you are afraid your lie would be found out by the police who would have a recording of your fable.

Who are the criminals here? The people who started this lie.

  3. It is NOT CRAIGSLIST.COM, that is where the scam comes in, if they say its CRAIGSLIST.COM then they wont get into much trouble, But they can still get into trouble with CRAIGSLIST.ORG but I am sure its a load of Crap as usual.

  4. TheFxxer here.
I believe this is a fraudulent claim. Hoax, agenda driven, whatever. Too many "mistakes" in the warning.
I am appalled that the taxpayer are having to foot the bill for an investigation.
    I would add two things:
1)Either way I hope the MCSO catches the responsible party(s) and that they are prosecuted.
2)The only thing that can ensure your pet(s) finds a good forever home in a "free to a good home" ad is to do home checks, vet references, and landlord check (if there is lease or rent)etc. YOU are the guardian of your pets, it is your responsibility to make sure your unwanted pets go to good homes regardless of free or fee. (if you are trying to adopt them out)

  5. Ok, that is pure bullshit and here is another reason why.

Who would go to all that trouble to get pets/cats/dogs to use as target practice by answering cl pet ads? I do not condone this crap but come on who needs to call/email/reply to an ad, go run around your area bullshitting people into giving away unwanted pets? That is by far too labor intensive. Drive around any local suburbia and notice all the cats, you could get a metric ton in about an hour.
Yes this warning is pure bullshit for all the reasons people have mentioned here.

    1. maybe we can find a way to shut down PETA? they showed up at a farm auction to stop the killing of cows...makes you wonder where their leather shoes, purses, etc came from, synthetic cows? where are the animals on cl supposed go if you can't try to find them a home? I don't remember seeing any homeless shelters for cats and dogs but then again the dog I got off of craigslist did eat my glasses..roflmao
