Another great new resource from Craig Newmark, check it out.

Welcome to LikeMinded (beta)

Thanks for taking an early test drive of LikeMinded.
We should all live in great communities: strong, healthy, democratic, sustainable, collaborative places. We built LikeMinded to make that happen.
People are doing incredible things to strengthen their local communities. Too often, they don’t get credit for their amazing work. As importantly, people in other communities don’t learn from one another’s successes often enough.
LikeMinded wants to change that by helping community success stories travel better.
That’s where you come in! Know of great work being done in your community? Help the story be told by sharing an existing web link about it as a Resource, or document the story of a community project using our Project feature. And spread the word to your community rockstar friends so their work gets attention.
Most of all, thank you for caring about strengthening your community. We’re here to help.

Excuse the Mess, We’re in our Beta Test

We’re in our beta test period, which means some features are finished, and others are yet to come. Some things might be broken too – and with your help we can get them fixed. During the beta we’ll also be listening for ideas on the future of LikeMinded. What features should be next? Share your ideas through the Feedback tab on the right of every LikeMinded screen.

What Can LikeMinded Do?

We’re starting with two features to connect people with stories of how others are strengthening their neighborhoods:
1. Discovery
In LikeMinded Beta, you can discover two kinds of information about local issues you care about:
Resources: Resources are articles, videos, tools, and audio from around the web related to local community change. It’s information in its original form, available free from the source.
Projects: Projects are the story behind community change. What issue was addressed, how did the team do it, and did it work? Projects include visibility for the people and organizations who did the hard work and info about where and when it all happened. They are a great way to get a snapshot into how people addressed issues in their neighborhood.
You can discover information through the topics on our homepage, and you can explore more deeply at our full search page.
2. Sharing
Individuals and organizations are sharing local community stories through LikeMinded. The real magic comes when you share your story. What have you or your organization taken on? What cool projects have you read about? Help inspire others by sharing what you know as resources or projects.

The Future of LikeMinded

We have some ideas about where we’ll take LikeMinded, but we’re also listening for your ideas.
One of our key themes is that LikeMinded is primarily a platform, not a destination. We love developing likeminded.org for you. What’s more fun is thinking of ways to take all the info in LikeMinded and make it available for you to use and remix on your own sites. We’ll be building tools to make that happen in Spring 2011.

Who Made LikeMinded

LikeMinded is a project of Craigslist Foundation and is part of the Technology for Engagement Initiative of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
LikeMinded is the product of feedback from our community. Over the course of a year, we hosted more than a dozen discussions about the concept of whether stories of local community action were traveling from town to town and what might help them travel better. That feedback was essential to the creation of LikeMinded.
Jordan Kanarek worked with us on the User Experience (aka what LikeMinded looks like and how you get around the site).
The folks at Exygy programmed LikeMinded.
Special thanks to IdeaEncoreIssueLab and Wiser Earth for working with us behind the scenes on ways to import large libraries of stories directly into LikeMinded.
