Possible Craigslist Killer At Large in Oregon
Portland, Oregon, 11/17/2011 – A possible Craigslist killer is currently in Oregon after implementing himself online in his own self described Craigslist killing plot. Earlier this week Portland web developer Andy Sullivan confessed that he has launchedNoLimitList.com as part of an ongoing plot aimed at killing Craigslist with superior services. No Limit List offers a worldwide alternative with advanced features built upon a familiar foundation to enhance the user experience with better design and lower censorship levels.
No Limit List began when a series of negative experiences on Craigslist led one user to realize that with just some time he could build something better simply by applying his skills. He started off by reverse engineering Craigslist’s geographic structure, expanding it to include over 280 countries, and making a list of features he wished he could find on Craigslist. The result is a service where users can post comments, rate items, find places on Google Maps, add videos, communicate on site privately, and build public profiles complete with their own RSS feed that can be used to syndicate their work elsewhere. They can do all that with the help of a spell checker, dictionary, thesaurus, encyclopedia, unit converter, currency converter, language translator, calendar, and world time clocks accessible on every page through integrated third party applications.
Despite all of its advanced features perhaps it is what no one can see on No Limit List that offers the most value to users because one thing nobody will find is unnecessary censorship. They won’t find it due to the fact that No Limit List users in good standing are given full control over their work, all listings are permanent by default, and they can rest assured that competitors will never be able to maliciously flag their ads for deletion because flagging systems were left out by design in favor of greater protection for their civil liberties. Greater protection for their civil liberties empowered to them by policies that permit freedom of expression to the fullest extent allowed by law and are backed by strategic resource placement for an added layer of security just in case.
Overall NoLimitList.com offers a combination of user friendly features and free speech protection capable of making it the colossus of potential Craigslist killers at large on the internet today. Sullivan is currently working on last minute formatting issues and minor bug fixes while planning a killing spree aimed at systematically wiping out competitors until the end of time simply by giving the people real hope for a better future.

go for it many of us are behind you !
ReplyDeleteJut in case it isn't clear, I am not the one starting this new site, nor am I promoting it. After a quick look inside the site it appears to be infested with spam.
ReplyDeleteThe TOU for this new site have mainly been copy and pasted from craiglist's TOU.
I see no readily available mechanism for the removal of non-rule abiding ads. I see this site flying out of control in a very short while.
Also problematic is the FAQ. The site seems to base it's legalistic foothold off of journalistic media laws. Ads are called "articles". You can call them anything you wish, I doubt that will help any if case of law suits. Just my opinion.

Fixxer,
ReplyDeleteNow I see what you meant last night by "articles" vs "ads", but the terms really are interchangeable because ads are just a type of article written to advertise. The lack of a flagging system and the FAQ page are not problematic at all, in fact they both highlight a key main value proposition of the service. That value proposition being the ability for users to publish whatever they please and be able to rest assured that their work will never be deleted just because people don't like it. Although perfectly legal my combination of offshore domain registration and servers guarantees the site immunity from domestic lawsuits even in the case of judicial error because ultimately the government will have to adhere to site policies to see changes made. This configuration was tested during the prototyping phase on a real lawyer specializing in cyber law and it rendered him impotent.
That does not mean that everything will be tolerated because as the Abuse Police (http://nolimitlist.com/abuse/) states complaints involving serious breaches of policy will be address. Those breaches include scams and fraud, but I personally think that its better for users to flag ads by giving them 1 star and a negative comment because people who read the negative feedback can use it to make decisions about those ads both on my site and other sites used by the advertiser.
As for the spam issue we discussed I want to post publicly that most of what looks like affiliate spam is the result of multiple shopping sections from smaller sites being merged into one. Those sites focus on niche issues for which they typically have small shopping sections with relevant merchandise, but those sites are spread out and weak kind of like Custer's army. As a result they lack the firepower that a stronger authoritative site would have, so by combining them into one I hope to make each of those ads more potent.
There were also a lot of ads posted under test accounts for SEO reasons. One reason was to increase the amount of content and the speed at which new content is indexed. By doing this new users should see their ads show up on Google much faster.
Multiple test users were created for the purpose of ensuring a natural on site link structure because if both I and my business partner used the NoLimitList.com account for everything there would be far too many links pointing to that user profile (http://nolimitlist.com/user/NoLimitList.com).
I apologize to people who are turned off by the affiliate ads (especially in personals), but they work for jump starting a database. If you don't like them just bury them with your stuff since that is what I hope to see happen eventually anyway. Try writing something funny in missed connections like I did (http://nolimitlist.com/personals/missed-connections).
As you can see by my work I don't take many things seriously. I doubt that I'll ever put Craigslist out of business and I'll be happy just to provide a fun alternative.
Nice. "We know it's infested with affiliate spam, but we are happy because it makes it look like we actually have content."
ReplyDeleteWhat a maroon. And I thought spamhavens were a thing of the past.
